GENESEO, N.Y. — The skies are clear for takeoff this weekend at the Geneseo Air Show.
Vintage World War II-era planes will share the skies over Livingston County with modern marvels like the F-22 Raptor.
The National Warplane Museum in Geneseo is hosting the event a month earlier than it has in the past. Among the classics at the show will be the Whiskey 7, a Douglas C-47 that led the second wave of allied attacks at Normandy.
"I've flown a lot of vintage airplanes and this is the only airplane that I've operated over the years. I've been doing this for 20-25 years," said pilot Peter Treichler. "It actually has combat history. This airplane was the lead aircraft on D-Day. It took off in England in the late evening and they dropped troopers into northern France on June 6, 1944, just after midnight. So the airplane has a really significant history."
The gates for the air show open at 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets can be purchased on the National Warplane Museum's website.
