PITTSFORD, N.Y. — It will be bitter cold over the next few days, but the snow that's coming is great news for local skiers and snowboarders.

People in the Rochester area don't have to travel too far for skiing.

Swain Ski Resort has set up slopes at two Monroe County parks. It's a great way to ski or snowboard closer to home and at a more affordable price whether you have your own gear or need to rent some.

Both Powder Mills Park in Pittsford and Northampton Park in Ogden have the Swain powder package which includes three lessons at the park and one lesson at Swain Resort.

You can ski for as little as $12 at both locations and rent equipment for $15, which makes it a great way to learn or just casually come spend some time on the hill without spending too much money.

"I think Swain wanted to do it for the area just because there are so many families that don't get to chance to drive up to Swain all the time and bringing it to them is just a really easy way to do it and so kids can learn, we have parents that learn," said Tasha Colton, the hill manager at Powder Mills Park. "They get involved with it they see their kid and they're like 'I want to try that,' and then we get them on the hill."

With the snow that's coming, the hill should be great next week. But even when it doesn't snow, there's a snow-making machine to keep the skiing going into the spring.
