OGDEN, N.Y. — There's a brand new playground to check out in Monroe County. The Alpine Adventure Zone at Northampton Park in Ogden is now officially open.

It's the fourth of its kind in the county, bringing a natural playground to the west side of the Rochester area.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new park, which is made up mostly of trees, was held Monday. Monroe County Executive Adam Bello says it’s been open for the last week and already hundreds of kids have come out to play.

"This isn’t just one of those cookie-cutter playgrounds that you buy from those big catalogs," said Bello. "The men and women you see here, what they created was a play area that has contributions from our county parks systems. Reused wood and natural resources to create this really unique environment."

Some parts of the playground are actually from the natural playground at Seneca Park Zoo as they begin to get rid of the one there and make way for a cafe. It’s also built from almost 100 tons of boulders as well as white oak and locust trees from different county parks.

Outside of the Seneca Park Zoo, there are also natural playgrounds at Abraham Lincoln Park and Highland Park.

Bello says he is committed to investing in parks across the county.
