Players are teed up and ready to roll as Monroe County's three public golf courses welcomed them back on Tuesday.

You can visit Durand Eastman, Genesee Valley, or Churchville Golf Course.

Last summer, the courses saw a record amount of play because people were looking for fun, safe, outdoor activities during the pandemic. Spectrum News spoke with someone who learned how to golf last year because of the situation.

"It felt like the only thing that I can do and my whole group of friends of mine, we're all like musicians. We record music and play music and play shows and there’s none of that last year so we just started golfing and we all became golf nuts," said Mike Turzanski of Irondequoit.

Now the courses are getting ready to see another busy year. Golfers will notice a lot of the same rules that started last year to follow COVID-19 protocols are still in place.

A mask has to be worn in the pro shop, but it's not required out on the course as long as people stay distanced. The county asks that you don't share equipment. Ball washers won't be at the courses, so they ask that you bring your own hand sanitizer.

If you find a lost ball, leave it. And try not to shake hands or high-five when greeting other people or celebrating. You do have to register in advance to come and enjoy the courses.

Rates vary depending on whether you're coming on a weekend versus a weekday and differ between courses. There's also a lower rental rate for kids so it's an activity the whole family can enjoy.
