Sony's PlayStation virtual reality system is about to hit shelves, and Adam Balkin rounds up the top titles at the launch that may change your opinion about just how immersive a video game can be.
Playstation VR, virtual reality, is hitting shelves. Which titles should you spring for at launch? Here are my top five that are almost certain to wow you.
First, a reminder - until you put on a headset, what we're going to show you does not even come close to doing justice to how truly immersive virtual reality is.
OK, to the list. Number five: Playstation VR Worlds, five mini games/experiences that’ll all, each in unique ways, allow you to understand the promise of VR, from how relaxing it can be to how it can make you fear for both your life and your lunch.
Number four: Job Simulator. On its surface, sounds horrible. You put on a headset and go back to work. What makes it fun, though, is how you can interact with everything and do things you’d never actually do at your real office, like throw coffee mugs across the room or dump coffee on your computer.
Number three: Wayward Sky. Think of this one like one of those really well-animated puzzle games you’d play on your mobile device, only you are surrounded by the beautiful animation.
Number two: Most definitely not child-friendly, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood. It is terrifying and violent. You get placed on an old amusement park ride with two pistols. The goal: try not to wet your couch while you take down all the undead things trying to make dead you.
And number one: Batman: Arkham VR is a must-try, quite simply because when you step virtual foot into Gotham City, you feel as if you’ve stepped actual foot into Gotham City. Every weapon or clue that you turn over in your hand feels and looks almost like you’re actually holding it. Now, apply that to the cool things Batman gets to hold, and, well, enough said.
