ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Devon Levi is feeling right at home under the lights of Blue Cross Arena.
"There's so much culture in this rink," Levi said. "And it's really cool to be a part of."
The Blue Cross Arena is a major part of the hockey journey.
"It's kind of like a movie where the main character goes through a lot of adversity at first," he said.
No stranger to KeyBank Center out west in Buffalo as well, he's spent most of the year with the American Hockey League affiliate Amerks and is making more than the most of it.
"There's some periods where it was a little harder to win," he said. "But I think that's all part of the process. I think that, as a pro, I'm learning. I'm growing. I'm getting a little bit older every day.
"It's a little bit more experienced. You know, I take my experiences in Buffalo and I take my experiences that I've had in Rochester and kind of merge them into who I am as a goalie."
Gelling with the red white and blue, Devon and company are sitting at the top of the AHL's north division and see that as a boom for the Sabres future.
"Playing with a lot of these guys, super great players, even better guys off the year and I think it speaks, speaks a lot to the character that the team has built," Levi said. "I honestly don't think you go wrong with anyone on the roster here. Everyone's a great player and everyone brings their aspect to the team. And there's a lot of key pieces here that are helping us win."
The whole crew contributes. Levi has gone above beyond and has been selected as an AHL all-star.
"I haven't really thought much about it, honestly, just because we've been playing a lot and just trying to keep the momentum going here," he said. "I know when it gets a little bit closer and when I'm there, I'm going to take it and I'm going to going to really enjoy it. But right now [I] just focus on winning games here."
That focus has been on full display.
"I think we have a chance to win every single game," Levi said. "More than a chance. I'd say once the boys get going, like, we pull one or two and it ends up being more like five or six, which as a goalie is a lot of help."
And he's sure to return the favor.
"Consistency is a big thing for me this year," Levi said. "And just trying to be like a backbone that the boys could rely on. Just knowing that they're going to get the save when they need to get the save."
While there have been highs and lows over the last couple of seasons, Levi hopes his time in the 585 is a page in the script for his Hollywood ending.
"And then it makes the end of the movie, the part where he triumphs, way more meaningful and emotional," he said. "So that's kind of the mentality. And it takes patience."
