ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Funding from the state budget is going toward fan experience improvements at Frontier Field.
The $11 million project announced Monday will create bistro-table seating, as well as a 360-degree concourse which will allow fans to walk all the way around the field.
This most recent project is in addition to a $12 million project announced last year that will bring the stadium up to the standards put in place by Major League Baseball for minor league teams.
General Manager Dan Mason said these improvements will help the 26-year-old stadium stay relevant among other professional stadiums, and creates unique experiences for fans.
"You know, if you have young kids, sometimes they don’t want to sit in their seat for the whole game,” Mason said. “The berms are great for that what we have now. You’ll see a lot of families taking advantage of berms, but this will just be another way for fans to enjoy the experience."
“Baseball fans today experience games very differently than 25 years ago. To remain competitive, Frontier Field needs to meet modern standards,” County Executive Adam Bello said in a statement. “It’s important to act on this now as there will be considerable savings working concurrently with the ongoing infrastructure improvements. Thank you to Governor Hochul, State Senators Jeremy Cooney and Samra Brouk, Assembly members Harry Bronson, Jen Lunsford, Sarah Clark, Demond Meeks, and to my partners in county government, Monroe County Legislature President Sabrina Lamar, Assistant Majority Leader Paul Dondorfer and Minority Leader Yversha Roman.”
Ten million dollars is being provided from the state budget.
Both projects are expected to take about three years to complete.
