East High running back Seven McGee is nearing the end of his high school football journey. After playing his freshman year in California, McGee decided to return home.
“I'm not from California, I'm from New York. My mom and dad live in Rochester, they're living there as we speak. I wanted to come home and play in front of my mom, my pops, my family, friends and try to win a championship," McGee said.
Following a standout sophomore season for the Eagles, McGee was on the move again. He enrolled at a high school back in California only to decide a return to Rochester was best. However, McGee was forced to miss his junior year after a transfer appeal was denied.
"It was a learning experience. It humbled me, very much humbled me. I gained leadership and to trust in my teammates and my coaches and to become another coach on the sideline. Also, even when I couldn't play, come to practice to pretend and prep like I was playing for the week," McGee explained.
Heavily recruited since his freshman year, McGee is committed to the University of Oregon and is looking forward to officially joining the Ducks program.
"They wait until your senior year of that August, now you're fully a senior, that wait until that August and it’s like boom, you've got a scholarship, you can come, you can sign November-December whatever the case may be. But, it's pretty big for me, it's huge," said McGee.
But with one year of eligibility left, McGee plans to play his senior year at East if high school sports take place this fall.
“If we play in the spring, then I will not be having a senior year because I want to go to college, 100 percent, ability and my body's feeling right and me getting ready for college. So, if we play in the spring, probably not. If we play in October then I'll play. It's something I would love to do to win a state championship," he said.
