Anaya Dees is one of the most versatile track athletes in Section V. The Hilton senior and defending state indoor long jump champion, Dees also placed top ten in both the triple jump and 55 meter hurdles.

Those performances with the Cadets and Maximum Velocity track club led to a scholarship to the University of Cincinnati.

"They have the whole Olympic aspect, like they know that if I do get that far, who I can handle the stress and what I need to do to make my marks farther or my hurdles faster," Dees said.

Emily Tait is looking to go Division 1 as well, preferring to wait until the spring to make her choice. Also a long and triple jumper, Tait is the only indoor athlete representing Attica.

"I have to go all the way out to other schools like Batavia where they have a bigger track team and it's really intimidating competing against those bigger schools but it gives me more confidence, more drive to fight harder and be in the top," Tait said.

Despite growing up in different school districts, the two have been friends for nearly a decade.

“At first, I as a little scared because I watched her jump and I'm like, oh my gosh, she's really good but when we started talking and checking each other's marks, the little things, it made us really close and I'm glad I have her," Dees said.

Together, the two have the top long jump marks in Section 5 and among the top ten in New York.
