McQuaid beating Aquinas in week one was bad news for Irish opponents. Since then, Aquinas has been dominating, winning four straight.

That was a wake up call and honestly ever since then, we've been working,” said Aquinas senior Steve Mahar. “We come to practice and we work, work, work…and now it's go time."

Aquinas head coach Derek Annechino said the team has improved in all three phases of the game since the first week.

“The kids are working really hard practicing and the coaching staff is working really hard to get them ready,” he said.

Annechino praises the work of his offense coordinator Dan Pincelli, who has worked tirelessly studying film and getting the offense ready.

Junior quarterback Tyler Szalkowski is the engine of the Irish offense that has averaged 40 points a game in the last four weeks.

"Right now I'm just focusing on taking care of the ball and making better decisions and seeing the field clear,” Szalkowski said. “Everyone is kind of clicking right now and we're looking pretty good."

Since giving up 27 points in week one, the Irish defense limiting teams to fewer than 20 a game.

“Those kids have gotten better and better every week as well. Our D-line is playing great and our secondary is just flying around making plays,” Annechino said.

The defending Double A state champions are setting themselves up for another run at a title.

“We're just playing to get ready for that second season to start," Annechino said.
