The Irondequoit Eagles have a strong core of players in Emma Sheehan, Drew Kemp and Jashawna Luke — Sheehan being an all-state setter.

Irondequoit is confident they can earn a third straight Sectional title, and the Eagles will need their core players to take that next level of success.

“She’s always had great hands, she’s always been the smartest player on the court and you love to have those characteristics in a setter, not to mention that she plays great defense and she can get to every ball on the court,” said Irondequoit girls volleyball coach Marc Callari.

Luke said the team is excited with the prospect of getting past regionals and to states.

Sheehan has helped Kemp and Luke solidify their place as the Eagles’ leading hitters, but the duo has unique interests off the court.

"Me and my mom, we just started collecting bottles. That's when we went to the YWCA and picked up a family and they would give us their list,” Luke said. “Just something to make their Christmas special like ours is. I'd like the feeling that (I’m) making somebody else's Christmas special."

Kemp plans to pursue a career in modeling after her volleyball days are over.

"That first photo shoot I went to, I really loved being in front of the camera and I knew right there that I wanted to be in front of the camera for a long time,” Kemp said. “There's a correlation because confidence plays a role in, so, I mean you have to pretty confident to play volleyball and you have to be pretty confident to be in front of the camera."
