Greece native Jeff Sluman recounted this week his first visit to Oak Hill.

A 10-year-old Sluman and his father visited the course in 1968 during the U.S. Open. Sluman would later become a member while working toward his professional card.

"Having a membership here really developed my game. Every guy on tour came up to me and said, 'man, if you play a golf  course like this every day you better really know how to drive the ball and hit good, solid, crisp irons.’ I think a lot of my success has to do with those 18 holes I just got done playing,” said Sluman.

Sluman is now likely to miss the cut after finishing his first two rounds at 14 over par.

He entered Friday's round at four over par, bogeying six of the front nine.

"I said earlier in the week I'm going to embrace the week no matter what, and try to have as good of a time you can, if you play poorly, which I unfortunately did," he said.

After bogeying 11 and 15, Sluman went on to par his final three holes with a growing gallery following him every step of the way.

"Oh well, I knew that whether it was going to be Friday or Sunday, that was my last competitive round here, that's why making par was actually a good feeling. It was nice to have a little tap in four and the stands were full. You look down the fairway and both sides of the fairway were packed. Rochester loves their golf and they always have shown it here,” he said.
