ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A local high school football referee thrives despite his hearing impairment.
Section V referee James Segala lost his hearing when he was 5 years old. While some might avoid the spotlight of refereeing with a disability, Segala embraces the pressure.
"I became a referee because I love the game. It's fun," Segala says.
The former college quarterback spent time as an assistant coach at Webster Schroeder, but stepped away from coaching to focus on raising his two sons.
Both boys, following in their father's footsteps, are now quarterbacks.
Their names? Brett and Brees, named after Super Bowl winning quarterbacks Brett Favre and Drew Brees.
