ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester is coming off of a violent weekend after eight shootings, one of which became the city's 23rd homicide of the year, according to police.

The Rochester Police Department says a 28-year-old man who was shot near Driving Park Avenue and Pierpont Street Sunday afternoon has died.

Police say the other seven shootings took place on the following streets:

  • Dewey Avenue
  • Glide Street
  • York Street
  • Ontario Street
  • Parsells Avenue
  • Bernard Street
  • Joseph Place

The youngest victim, according to the RPD, is a 14-year-old boy who was shot on Ontario Street Saturday night. He is expected to recover.

The weekend shootings follow a string of recent incidents in which gunshots have been fired into Rochester homes. A 10-year-old girl was hit four times during one shooting while inside a home on Moulson Street.

Mayor Malik Evans is trying to curb the violence with the newly announced Rochester Peace Collective. The community trust works to find and fund proven programs that prevent violence.

RPD investigators are asking anyone with information on these latest incidents to call 911.
