The Red Cross says they're in the need of more volunteers to step in and help when disaster strikes.

Only 10% of people with the Red Cross are paid staff, while the other 90% are volunteers.

Across New York state, the non-profit organization says they respond to nearly 10 house fires a day, while also sending support to multiple types of disasters, including tornadoes, floods, ice jams and earthquakes.

"We 100% are constantly looking for volunteers, especially in the North Country," said Colby Foster, disaster program manager. "Those communities are often so rural and really it's those individuals that live in the community that make the biggest impact and can help service those impacted from disaster."
