ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Fire officials say six puppies have died following a house fire in Rochester.
The fire broke out at a home on Westview Terrace, near Elmwood Avenue, Monday morning.
Fire officials say that one of the dogs knocked over a space heater, causing the fire.
Two dogs were rescued and given oxygen at the scene. Sadly, the puppies could not be resuscitated.
Fire officials say this is an example of the dangers of space heaters.
"We just want to make sure people are aware that space heaters... that you have a clear area around them," said James Hartman, battalion chief for the Rochester Fire Department. "They need to be secured so they don't tip over."
A man was also treated for smoke inhalation. He was the only person home at the time.
Fire officials say there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
