ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester police say two children are dead and a third has serious injuries after a crash on the city's west side.
The crash happened Wednesday morning at the intersection of Mt. Read Boulevard and Lyell Avenue.
According to investigators, two cars collided in the intersection around 9:45 a.m. They say there was only a driver in the first car with there being one adult and three children in the second vehicle.
Police say the two children who died were 4 years old and 11 years old. The surviving child, an 8-year-old, is in critical condition. The driver of that vehicle, their 30-year-old mother, has non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle, a man in his 20s, was treated and released from the hospital. Police say he is cooperating with the investigation and has not yet been charged with a crime.
"This was an incredibly difficult scene," said Cmdr. Greg Bello with the RPD. "Obviously, our thoughts and prayers go out to everybody involved, the family members. As we go into the holiday season, to have, well any time of the year, but specifically the holiday season, to have deceased children is just crushing. I've got my own two kids at home. This is bothersome."
