BRIGHTON, N.Y. — Brighton police say they have charged a three-time convicted felon in connection with a deadly hit-and-run last week on Highland Avenue.
Police say the incident was not an accident and that the suspect, Angelina Griffin, 24, intentionally struck Omar Coker, 34, in retaliation for a robbery that had just occurred in an East Avenue apartment complex.
Griffin is charged with second-degree murder, according to authorities.
"The suspect, our defendant in this case, Angelina, left that apartment complex in a Mercedes Benz at a high rate of speed, as the chief mentioned, and struck our decedent while he was walking on the shoulder of Highland Avenue. At that time, upon our arrival, several thousand dollars were spread across Highland Avenue," said Capt. Mike DeSain of the Brighton Police Department.
Police tell Spectrum News they believe Coker had just robbed Griffin of that money inside an apartment she rented on East Avenue. Police are calling that residence a "ghost apartment" because they say Griffin did not tell her parole officer about the address.
According to police, Griffin most recently served prison time for an attempted robbery conviction. She is currently being held in the Monroe County Jail and is scheduled to return to court on Friday.
