ROCHESTER, N.Y. — One person has died after a fire broke out in one of Rochester's high rises.

The Rochester Fire Department says it responded to Seneca Towers around 11 a.m. for a fire on the 21st floor of the building.

Lieutenant Ryan Fleming says it was declared a second alarm due to it being a high rise

"There is a great amount of life safety that we are concerned with. High rises tend to present challenges for us and it is something that requires at least a second alarm when we do have a confirmed fire on a high rise," said Fleming.

Officials say they were able to get the fire under control in 25 minutes.

All residents were evacuated and then given the OK to return back to their apartments.

There is no word yet on the identity of the victim or the cause of the fire.

Seneca Towers is an affordable housing unit for senior citizens age 55 and older.
