RUSH, N.Y. — The Rush Volunteer Fire Department hit a milestone Friday, turning 100 years old.
To celebrate this achievement, the department launched fireworks for the community to enjoy.
The chief says the department had many more festivities planned, but the pandemic got in the way and put those plans on hold.
The Rush chief says some of the department's firefighters, including members of his family, have been with the organization for decades, and the department has a rich history worth celebrating on this special day.
"I'm really proud and honored to be the chief here when we actually hit 100. But everyone that's come before me has had a part in it, it's not just the 100th year, it's the 95th, the 90th, the 80th, all those years were important to get us here where we are today," said Chief Jon Faugh.
