FAIRPORT, N.Y. — Black Lives Matter t-shirts and pins can once again be worn in Fairport schools by teachers and staff.

District leaders reversed a decision made just days ago after some families expressed concern that BLM signs, shirts, and other items worn by faculty created a hostile environment for the family members of law enforcement. The materials were considered to be a political statement.

But those who back Black Lives Matter in their classrooms and schools convinced Fairport's superintendent it was not political but a show of support for students of color that modeled civility for all students.

Superintendent Brett Provenzano had this to say in a new statement:

"We will not suppress sentiments of love, kindness, and support for our students. These enduring concepts are at the heart of who we are as a school community."
