ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Police have been called to the West Ridge Plaza in Rochester several times — and were back again Sunday night.

Officers were investigating a shooting and the apparent assault of a woman who stepped in to put a stop to the noise.

Police have been called to the parking lot many times on Sunday nights for groups of people partying, playing loud music, and revving their car engines.

On Sunday, another gathering led to more trouble.

Rochester police say around 1 a.m., a large group was gathered in the parking lot when a fight broke out. According to investigators, A 22-year-old man was shot multiple times in the lower body.

The victim was first treated at Unity Hospital and then transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital.  

Police say he is expected to survive.

While investigating the shooting, police say a woman covered in gasoline and motor oil approached officers. The 48-year-old Greece woman had gone to the plaza to confront the group for being loud.

She was filming the group when police say she was assaulted by several people who poured the liquids all over her. She was treated at the scene and is expected to be okay.

Both incidents are still being investigated.
