GATES, N.Y. — A Gates father reacted to the news that his daughter's bus driver is facing several charges, accused of driving while drunk with children on board.

"I have never heard of this ever," said David Ferris, who was beside himself. "This is ludicrous that this would even happen."

Police believe Lashonda Griffin had been driving under the influence while taking students to Northstar Christian Academy.

Ferris says he'd seen some concerning behavior from the bus driver and recalled one time that Griffin drove past his house without picking up his daughter and an exchange student who was staying with them. He says he eventually found her in a parking lot using her phone.

"It should have thrown some red flags right away, but obviously it didn't," Ferris said. "Thank God, you know, this is resolved at this point. This is never going to happen again, as far as I'm concerned."

The Ferris family also showed Spectrum News a video of Griffin taking students to McDonald's before finishing her route that morning -- a stop that police confirm she made.

"Her job is to get them to school, safely," Ferris said. "It's not to take them to McDonald's for breakfast, so that she can get a cup of coffee or get something to eat. It's just wrong."

Now, he is counting his blessings that no one was hurt.

"I would hope that this woman would get some help, truthfully," Ferris said. "It's my understanding she will never drive again."
