GREECE, N.Y. — Police say a woman has serious injuries after being hit by a car on Latta Road, near Long Pond Road.

The crash happened just after 6 a.m. Monday.

Police believe the woman was trying to cross the road when she was struck.

When police arrived, they say the woman was unconscious. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Sgt. Jared Rene with the Greece Police Department says they believe the driver of the car just didn't see the woman in time.

"It's just after 6 a.m., it's dark out this time of year on Latta Road. I don't know if visibility was an issue. There was another vehicle that was in the area and actually saw, slowed for the woman as she was crossing, and the other vehicle I just don't think saw her," said Rene.

The woman was not at a cross walk or intersection. Sgt. Rene says they are still trying to identify the victim. He recommends that everyone carry identification with them at all times.
