The Rochester Police Department closed multiple streets on Friday in the Genesee section of the city after two separate incidents involving possible explosives found in homes.
On Magnolia Street, what police believe to be a military mortar round was found in an attic by a roofing contractor. That item was moved to the backyard before personnel from Fort Drum were called to help relocate the explosive.
On Roslyn Street, what police believe to be a live grenade was found in a basement by a family member cleaning. This item was also moved to the backyard. The RPD Bomb Squad unit was on the scene.
Both areas have since reopened. No word yet from police what time period either explosive is from or if they were active.
