By their 18th birthday, one in 10 children is the victim of abuse, according to the Bivona Child Advocacy Center.

The center believes everyone can be part of the solution.

"The public has a very important role in helping to prevent child abuse, and it's not necessarily picking up the phone and calling the child abuse hotline," said Bivona Child Advocacy Center director Deb Rosen. "Very often, it's paying attention to the distress, and the stress that a family may be exhibiting and simply reaching out to offer material help, or moral support."

Bivona is open and helping the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you suspect abuse, but you're not sure, you can call Bivona at 585-935-7800.

You can also call the police or New York State Abuse Hotline at 1-800-342-3720.
