Albion Correctional Facility was named in a lawsuit that claims female inmates were sexually abused by correctional officers.

The lawsuit also claims that the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision not only knew about the threat, but failed to protect the inmates.

According to the court documents, correctional officers at five different correctional facilities in New York routinely engaged in illegal sexual activity with inmates and created an intimidating environment for any woman who tried to speak out about the abuse.

In Albion, an officer allegedly sexually abused an inmate for two years and at least four more times after corrections investigators found out about the abuse.

Although the lawsuit refers to five victims, it says throughout that time many of the corrections officers sexually abused other inmates as well.
