A Canandaigua man is facing charges in connection with a dog that was found abandoned in a cage on the side of the road in Wayne County.

Shaquan Leach, 25, turned himself in on Wednesday. He's charged with torture of an animal and abandonment of an animal, both misdemeanors.

The dog was found on Friday, November 22 on Pleasant Valley Road in Lyons. Police say it had no food, water or identification. The dog was turned over to the Humane Society of Wayne County and pictures of the dog then began circulating on social media.

The humane society says the dog is happy and healthy and although they haven't put it up for adoption yet, they have already received applications.

Leach is due back in court on December 10.
