ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- New York's 25th Congressional District has been in its current iteration since 2013.

The district is located entirely within Monroe County, including the city of Rochester and surrounding suburbs. It has only been represented by a Democrat since the last redistricting.

Rep. Louise Slaughter was in Congress for more than 30 years, representing the district from 2013 until her death in March 2018.

Former Assembly Majority Leader Joe  Morelle succeeded his long-time friend Slaughter. Morelle won a four-way Democratic primary in June 2018, and five months later, simultaneously won a special election and a general election.

He assumed the office a week later in November 2018. Morelle has won one re-election since.

This week, former Rochester Police Chief La'Ron Singletary announced he would run in 2022. The former Democrat is running as a Republican.

New York's congressional lines will change again in February. Two maps released by the New York State Independent Redistricting Commission appear to leave  NY-25 largely untouched.

Democrats outnumber Republicans by more than 80,000 voters. There are nearly as many unafilliated voters as Republicans as well.
