ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren's lawyer is calling for trial in a different jurisdiction for the criminal charges brought against her.
According to court paperwork, both Warren and her two co-defendants want their trial moved due to the "overwhelming amount of negative media attention in the Rochester community," including media reports earlier this year regarding potential charges against her and due to her involvement in the Daniel Prude case.
Warren, Albert Jones Jr., and Rosalind Brooks-Harris pleaded not guilty in October on charges of scheme to defraud and violation of election law in connection to Warren's 2017 re-election campaign.
The 7th Judicial District administrative judge already decided against a local superior court judge and assigned a Cayuga County judge to the case.
Warren's attorney's also say in the paperwork that the same should hold true for the selection of the jury, and a fair and impartial trial would not be able to proceed in Monroe County.
