Kevin Frey is the Washington reporter for Spectrum News NY1 and Spectrum News 1, covering New York’s congressional delegation and national political stories. He also files reports for Spectrum's other news channels across the country.
Kevin is not new to Capitol Hill. He previously covered North Carolina’s congressional delegation for Spectrum’s stations in the Tar Heel State. In that role, he reported live during the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol and was inside the courtroom when the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in a key partisan gerrymandering case. Outside of politics, Kevin reported from the Outer Banks as Hurricane Florence came ashore.
Prior to joining Spectrum, Kevin covered Louisiana state politics for WAFB-TV, the CBS affiliate in Baton Rouge. While there, he reported from Havana during the governor’s weeklong economic development trip to Cuba.
Born and raised in Lancaster, Pa., Kevin first got his feet wet in the journalism field during an internship with WGAL-TV, the NBC affiliate in his hometown. He also interned with ABC News, Cox Media Group, and PBS Washington Week. Kevin graduated summa cum laude from The George Washington University with a degree in journalism and mass communication.
When he is not roaming the halls of Congress, you’ll find Kevin checking out the latest performances at the Kennedy Center or singing with a local choir.
