CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden announced Monday it welcomed two new members to the family: Munti and Flounder, two Asian small-clawed otters.
"We couldn’t be more excited to have Munti and Flounder join our zoo family, and we know you’re going to fall in love with them just like we have," the Cincinnati Zoo said. "Their playful antics, curious personalities and heartwarming bond are sure to make them instant favorites!"
The otters were moved to the zoo. Munti was born at the Cleveland Zoo in July 2020, and Flounder was born at the Columbus Zoo in Oct. 2018. There are some differences in the otters; for one, Munti has a pink tint to her nose and lips, and Flounder's lips and nose are darker in colder. Flounder is also a little bigger than Muntil.
These species of otters are native to southeast Asia, including eastern India, Thailand, Vietnam, southern China and some parts of Indonesia and Taiwan, the zoo said. The Asian small-clawed otter is listed as "vulnerable," as the population has dropped by about 30% in the past 30 years, the zoo said.
They can be found in the Elephant Trek Habitat. Check out the zoo's website for more information on Munti and Flounder.
