Attorneys for the gunman in the 2022 racist mass shooting in Buffalo are asking a judge to delay his federal trial by a year.

Payton Gendron killed 10 Black people and injured three others at a Tops supermarket on Jefferson Avenue in May 2022.

Gendron's legal team earlier this week filed a motion to adjourn the trial's start date of Sept. 8, saying the date doesn't provide the defense enough time to adequately prepare.

Gendron could face the death penalty if he's convicted.

He's currently serving a lifetime prison sentence after pleading guilty to state charges.
