The Delaware Avenue YMCA branch, which first opened in 1927, will cease all operations on April 4 at 6 p.m.
The Board of Directors of YMCA Buffalo Niagara say they came to this decision because the facility has suffered significant financial losses for years and deferred maintenance costs are piling up.
“The YMCA has always been committed to evolving to meet the needs of our community,” YMCA Buffalo Niagara President and CEO John Ehrbar said in a statement. “While the decision to close the Delaware Y is incredibly difficult, it allows us to focus on strengthening our impact in our region. We thank the community for their support over the years and look forward to continuing to serve Buffalo in new and meaningful ways.”
After April 4, members will still have full access to the five other local YMCA facilities and employees will be given the opportunity to continue their roles at other locations.
