Rochester Mayor Malik Evans reiterated the city's Vision Zero plan on Wednesday. It's a lofty goal of eliminating all traffic fatalities and severe injuries.
"It's very aspirational, but it's something we believe is extremely doable. And we look at accomplishing this through the 'three Es' — enforcement, environmental design as well as education. So, we believe by using those 'three Es' that we can work to make sure that we envision a Rochester where people won't have to have the heartbreak of crashes."
The mayor delivered the keynote address at Wednesday's ROC Vision Zero forum.
He says Rochester is the only city in the state outside of New York City to have a Vision Zero plan.
This comes as Rochester has a higher number of fatal accidents than comparable cities like Albany, Syracuse and Yonkers.
Some of the efforts towards accomplishing this goal include finishing the city's network of bike lanes and redesigning streets to be more pedestrian-friendly.
