MADISON, Wis. — The Madison community is finding ways to honor the victims of the school shooting that happened Monday, Dec. 16, at Abundant Life Christian School.
On Monday, Dec. 16, a 15-year-old female student, later identified as Natalie "Samantha" Rupnow, killed another teenage student and a teacher, police said. The shooter is also deceased. Another six people were taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from “minor” to “life-threatening,” police said.
Here are different ways community members can come together to mourn and honor the victims:
Memorial outside of the school
People have placed flowers and candles outside of the school, creating a memorial for the victims. Police have asked people not to enter the school itself.
The school is located at 4901 East Buckeye Road in Madison.
United Way of Dane County fund
United Way of Dane County has established an Abundant Life Christian School Emergency and Recovery Fund. All money raised will go directly to the school and support the school community.
“We are overwhelmed by the community’s support and grateful for United Way’s assistance,” says Doug Butler, Principal of Abundant Life Christan School. “We will be announcing a transparent process for funds distribution once we understand clearly what is needed and how best to support our families and school.”
Donations can be made online, here, or by texting “help4ALCS” to 40403.
ALCS Alumni Meal Support
A Google form has been started by an Abundant Life Christian School Alumni group on Facebook to offer support to those impacted by the shooting.
The group said it’s looking for support via gift cards (physical or digital) but that any type of support people are willing to give is welcome. Items will be collected and delivered to the school and church to be distributed as needed.
“…if there are specific families with specific needs, we want to help you as much as we can,” the post reads.
The form includes questions related to the type of support you want to offer, if you could help deliver meals and/or groceries, whether you know families with specific needs and more.
If you’d like to help, you can fill out the form, here.
Donations at Pick 'n Save and Metro Market
While you're making a trip to Pick 'n Save or Metro Market, you may be able to make a donation at the register. All 105 stores will collect donations for Abundant Life Christian School from now through the end of the year, Dec. 31, leaders announced.
A sign will be posted at checkouts letting customers select from $1, $3, $5, $10 or to round up.
In addition, Pick 'n Save and Metro Market will provide a $5,000 match for donations collected.

This list will be updated as more memorials and vigils are established.
