Multiple people are dead after a fire at an Irondequoit home Saturday and police are investigating it as a homicide.

Authorities responded to 329 Knapp Ave. around 5:23 a.m. Saturday.

Local police have not yet released any official details about those killed, nor how many people were inside the address. But police say a search turned up several people dead inside the building.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.

Police say they are working with investigators from the state and Monroe County.

“We're working all the investigative leads that we have available to us right now," Irondequoit Police Chief Scott Peters said. "But we're waiting for the medical examiner right now to remove the individuals and then let them do their investigation. So once they determine the exact cause of death, we'll be able to give more details. But this is turned into an active homicide investigation."

Peters says surrounding neighbors do not have to worry, as they believe this is a targeted attack based on the conditions of the bodies and the house.
