Strong winds and rain on Monday led to significant storm damage across the Finger Lakes region and Western New York.

Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione says multiple utility poles were downed on Route 5 in Canandaigua, while the east side of the county, specifically Geneva, Gorham and Manchester, saw many trees downed and roadways impacted.

Officials say fire crews were responding to these calls.

According to Canandaigua Police, the area of Lakeshore Drive and Eastern Boulevard saw reports of damage, with many residents stranded at businesses to the north of Eastern Boulevard until RG&E can verify if the downed power lines are live.

"Heavy rains, wind and storms came through here and knocked down about a dozen utility poles with live electric, trapping a lot of customers [at] a lot of shops and businesses along this service road, along Eastern Boulevard, some dropped on occupied vehicles," Canandaigua Fire Chief Frank Magnera said Monday night. "Right now, we have crews on scene as well RG&E trying to switch the power off and get the people out safely."

In Steuben County, officials say many trees and power lines were damaged due to the storm, and some county and town roads have limited access due to downed trees and powerlines. Woodhull, Tuscarora, Lindley, Erwin, Campbell, Thurston, Hornby and the town and city of Corning were among the hardest hit areas. As of 8 p.m. on Monday, officials said there were approximately 12,500 electric customers without power, with crews working to restore power and provide safe conditions.

In Livingston County, multiple large trees fell over and impacted power lines in the town of Lima. National Grid was on the scene to provide services.
