Rochester police released a security photo of the person they believe shot and struck an RTS bus driver June 18 at a bus stop on Bay Street. RTS says the driver suffered life-changing injuries from the BB gun shooting.

What You Need To Know

  • An RTS bus driver was shot with a BB gun June 18

  • A suspect is still at large

  • A cash reward of $500-$2,000 is available for information that leads to an arrest

"Our drivers are there every day providing a critical service to our community. They are not going out there thinking that they're not going to be able to get home safely to their families. We train them to provide excellent customer service and to be kind to our customers, especially those in crisis. And so we ask the community to be kind to them and help identify this person and send a message that this is not right and that our drivers are providing a critical service," said Miguel Velazquez, chief executive officer at RTS.

"The driver's name is Oscar. The mayor was the first one to call ATU and called Oscar and was very worried. I want to thank my ATU members who go to work every day in some of the roughest neighborhoods and have to worry if they are going to go home at night," said John Trott, president of ATU Local 282.

Rochester Mayor Malik Evans called the suspect a coward for shooting a bus driver on the job who was driving people to and from work, school and medical appointments.

"Those who serve the most vulnerable people in our community shouldn't have any reason to fear their customers. Somebody knows who this suspect is. Somebody knows who he is and what he did and somebody needs to come forward with that information and help us make an arrest," said Evans.

If you have any information to help identify the suspect you're asked to call 311, 911 or CrimeStoppers. There is a cash reward of $500 to $2,000.
