New Rochester City School District Interim Superintendent Demario Strickland discussed his priorities for the district on Tuesday.

Strickland started his new job Monday after taking over from former Superintendent Carmine Peluso. He left the district at the end of last month to serve as superintendent of the Churchville-Chili Schools.

"I think about the Rochester City School District kids all the time," Strickland said. "I think about the staff all the time. I think about the families all the time. I just want to be one of the many solutions."

This comes as the Rochester City Schools undergo a massive reconfiguration, with 11 schools closing and grade groups rearranging into five new institutions.

Strickland had been serving as deputy superintendent of teaching and learning since March 2023. He previously acted as a principal and assistant principal in the Buffalo City School District and dean of students in the New York City Department of Education.
