Rochester Police say a third victim has died from their injuries after the fiery crash on West Ridge Road in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Police say Dawn Revette, 54, is the fourth fatality, including the suspect, in what Chief David Smith referred to as an “attack” on New Year’s revelers.
“This was an assault on Rochester. Period,” said Mayor Malik Evans. “This was an assault on innocent people. It's obvious from his actions that he wanted to do more.”
Smith says suspect Michael Avery was a delivery driver who was in the area at least twice in the month of December before New Year’s Eve.
Technicians report they’ve found a replica handgun and multiple lighters in the armrest of the rental vehicle that crashed.
Smith says a 20-page journal has also been seized but adds it does not appear to contain any motive.
Police say this is an ongoing investigation, and they’re urging anyone who may have been around that evening or might have more information to reach out to the department’s major crimes unit at 585-428-7157.
