The Young Women's Christian Association of Rochester and Monroe County announced a $200,000 investment from KeyBank to expand options for homeless families.

Funding will help the YWCA renovate a facility on Ardmore Street that will house a licensed homeless shelter.

Officials say each year, more than 1,000 women and children take part in their housing programs.

"The emergency shelter is temporary,” Myra Henry, CEO and president of the Young Women's Christian Association of Rochester and Monroe County, said. “So getting the folks off the street, getting them into a safe place where they can get a warm meal, a warm bed to sleep in [and] have a place where the children can go to school. School buses will come here to pick up the kids. But there will be wrapped-around services for the whole family."

The newly acquired house will have 12 units.

Combined with its North Clinton location, the organization will have 19 family units and 13 single ones.
