Fights, hurling rocks and an unruly crowd at Rochester’s Lilac Festival have prompted organizers to strengthen security.
Around 9 p.m. on Friday, Rochester police say they responded to help disperse a group of about 300 juveniles refusing to leave the festival.
They say multiple fights broke out and some in the crowd threw rocks at the officers as well as passing vehicles.
The RPD says officers broke up the group after about a half hour. Police say no one was injured or arrested.
In response, organizers are updating their security and attendance policies.
Anyone ages 17 years or younger must now be escorted by a parent or guardian at least 21 years old. Identification is also required.
Non-parental guardians can only escort two underage visitors. Those visitors must remain with their parents while on festival grounds.
More fencing and increased security will also be added.
Workers will be checking all IDs and any bags at the entrance.
