Singing, praying and lots of support were shown for Kim Pegula at Eastern Hills Church on Saturday.

“To look around and see people from all over the community, really,” Kim Pegula’s father Ralph Kerr said. “Some drove great distances, actually, to just come together for prayer is so exciting and we're so grateful that they did that today.”

The community gathered alongside friends and family for a prayer and healing service for the Buffalo Bills and Sabres co-owner.

“Western New York is a unique community and we do coalesce a lot around our sports teams,” district superintendent of the Wesleyan Church Joseph Jennings said. “She is a hero in some sense for that. And just to see us as a community value prayer and I think in addition to what we support, how we support Kim.”

In February, Kim’s daughter Jessica, a professional tennis player, revealed in an essay in The Players' Tribune that her mother went into cardiac arrest last June and was in recovery while dealing with significant language and memory issues.

Her father shared on Saturday that progress is being made.

“We were shocked because, I mean, you don't expect that of a young woman,” Kerr said. “Then when we went to visit her and saw her go in the hospital and then in the rehab sessions where she's been, we've just seen God at work in her life. We saw her just this past week and she's making tremendous progress.”

The service also provided CPR training, highlighting its importance of potentially saving someone’s life.

“Had it not been for her daughter, Kelly, performing CPR, we would have lost her on that day,” Kerr said. “And it happened that Kelly was just trained in CPR like three weeks before that event.”

Many guests were able to leave messages for Kim, wishing her a speedy recovery and thanking her for her contributions to the community.

Her family returned the gratitude for those who came out to support them during this time.

“She loves people,” Kerr said. “She would do anything for anybody. That started when we first adopted her from Korea. Over the years, she's done so much for us. It won't be long until everybody will see her. We’ll rejoice together in the recovery that she's made. The Bills Mafia, the Sabers group [and] everybody that was here today, thank you so much.”
