KENTUCKY — It's not Halloween without a stockpile of spooky sweets. As the big day gets closer, retail data has unveiled the most popular candies in Kentucky and around the nation.

What You Need To Know

  •  Kentucky's, and America's, favorite Halloween candy is Reese's Cups

  •  That's according to the National Retail Federation

  • CandyStore looks at 15 years of sales data to glean their insights, focusing specifically on the months leading up to Halloween

  • Most Halloween shopping is done in the first two weeks of October

The National Retail Federation estimates that Americans will spend $3.1 billion on Halloween candy this year, marking an all-time high. A further look at recent numbers shows the most popular candy in the U.S. is the famous Reese's Cup. Skittles and M&M's follow close behind in second and third respectively.

In Kentucky, though, it's a slightly different picture.

The Commonwealth's favorite Halloween treat is also Reese's Cups, but it may surprise some to learn that Hot Tamales are second and Swedish Fish are third, according to candystore.com.

Our neighboring states strayed from the norms, too. Starbursts are supreme in Indiana, M&M's steal the show in Ohio and Tennessee can't get enough of Tootsie Pops.

CandyStore looks at 15 years of sales data to glean their insights, focusing specifically on the months leading up to Halloween. After candy sales fell drastically in 2020 due to the pandemic, they spiked to $3 billion in 2021 and are expected to grow once again this year.

Over 172 million Americans celebrate Halloween, CandyStore estimates, and among those partaking, 95% will purchase candy.

Most Halloween shopping is done in the first two weeks of October, so you shouldn't wait much longer to stock up for the trick-or-treaters!
