ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Just a month out from the Rochester Lilac Festival, organizers have released this year’s poster for the event.

Officials unveiled the poster on Wednesday.

The artist behind it is Diane Elmsie. She’s lived in Rochester her entire life and this is the third time her poster has been chosen for the event.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to visit Highland Park next month over the course of the three-week festival, as well as more than 2,500 who will be participating in the parade.

“Well, I think everybody is really celebrating and getting out to enjoy the simple pleasures of life," Elmsie said. "We didn't have that for a couple of years, being able to get out into the public, so we’re all kind of celebrating, having a good time."

Taking a look at the lilacs at Highland Park, Monroe County horticulturist Mark Quinn says Mother Nature is on schedule.

“Well, if you go out right now, the buds are swelling and you can see a little color in the lilac blooms," he said. "They are just starting to pop out and looking at the long-term weather, it's very positive so I think we’re in really good shape right now."

The Lilac Festival kicks off on May 6 and runs for three weekends.
