BRIGHTON, N.Y. — Two teens who saved a young boy after he nearly drowned in a hotel pool were honored and recognized for saving the 5-year-old’s life.

Brother and sister Ernest and Essence Singleton were awarded the Citizen Citation Award Wednesday by the town of Brighton Police Department.

The two were at the Country Inn and Suites Hotel in Brighton for a party when the boy went under. They jumped into action, getting the child out of the water and immediately started CPR.

Paramedics arrived and eventually got the boy alert and to the hospital.

While police say what they did saved the child’s life, both remain humble about their actions.

“I saved him, that was it, but I can see everyone else thinks it’s a big deal,” Ernest said.
