ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The sound of bells will soon be heard around storefronts and on sidewalks as the Salvation Army kicks off its 2021 Red Kettle Campaign on Friday.

Volunteers will be inviting folks passing by to spare some change for a good cause. And the Salvation Army says you can also give by texting or scanning a QR code.

The agency's working toward a $400,000 fundraising goal this year. It helps provide housing, food and clothing to those in need.

"We're very pleased the way Rochester and Greater Rochester has always supported the Salvation Army," said Doug Burr, Finger Lakes coordinator for the Salvation Army. "And we just know they are going to step up again and provide where we need the help."

The agency says all of the money donated at the kettles helps people locally.
