ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Museum and Science Center and Strasenburgh Planetarium are closing temporarily for deep cleaning.

RMSC will be closed September 13-24 and the planetarium will be closed September 13-20.

The buildings undergo this cleaning process every September. During this time, painting and deep cleaning is performed inside of exhibit display cases, which is something that staff isn’t able to do while open to the public.

“Closing for deep cleaning and painting helps us to bring our visitors wonderful experiences throughout the year," said Hillary Olson, President & CEO of the RMSC. "This annual closure is held during September when RMSC typically experiences our lowest visitation and allows us to complete projects that would negatively impact our visitor’s experiences, like shutting down Expedition Earth to clean the dust off Murray the Mastodon and his taxidermied neighbors."
