Jim Kurycki, president of the Genesee Valley Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America (SPAAMFAA), helped organize the show.

"We want to preserve the history and show them the history of the firefighting and our heritage,” Kurycki said. “Our families have been involved for hundreds of years. It's just kind of nice the equipment come out."

Jerry Clement, vice president of SPAAMFAA, explained it's not just about showing off the past, but also hoping to inspire the future.

"It's a wonderful job,” Clement said. “The ability to go out and serve the public, the appreciation you get when you save somebody's property or perhaps save a life. It's a wonderful feeling. It's a great career and there's a lot of comradery among the brothers and sisters."

Teenagers in the Chili and Spencerport Fire Departments' Explorer Programs also got a look at what it's like to be a firefighter.

Daniel Haag of Chili helped perform a simulated search and rescue mission with other explorers.

"We just did an obstacle course,” Haag said. “We do competitions with other fire explorers groups from around the county just to practice what we learn with the fire explorers."

On Sunday, Chili was able to complete the mission quicker than Spencerport.

"I'm 17,” Haag said. “I have been in the program for about six months now. And after this I'm hoping that I could volunteer for the Chili Fire Department. It's good to help people."
